About Juanita

Redcliffe Peninsula North Brisbane Based Teacher

Juanita Reid

I commenced my career in education in 1995 as a primary school teacher in Gladstone.  My career has taken me from Cooktown in the north to Jundah in the west of Queensland.  During my years as a classroom teacher, I felt an increasing frustration with the lack of effective teaching for students with learning difficulties, especially dyslexia.

As a teaching principal, I was responsible for meeting the needs of all my students and quickly realised that as a system we were failing these students in the methods we were using and that so many of the up to twenty percent of students with dyslexia were falling through the cracks.  I felt the frustration of the students and their parents but didn’t know the solution.

Then, six years ago, my godson, who has dyslexia, started tutoring with an educator who had been trained with the Institute for Multisensory Language Education.  Observing these lessons, I learnt more about the teaching of reading and spelling than I had throughout my whole career.  I was hooked.  I enrolled in the course and the rest is history.

I have been teaching privately for the last five years and have recently moved to Redcliffe from North Queensland, setting up Moreton Bay Multisense to offer quality teaching to children and adults in the Moreton Bay area.

Experience and Qualifications

I have a Bachelor of Education (1994) and hold registration with the Qld College of Teachers number 767570 and have undertaken post graduate training with the Institute for Multisensory Language Education.

I have taught across Queensland in a range of primary school settings.  I have most recently been a teaching principal of a small rural school.  I started private teaching five years ago and have found it extremely rewarding to teach students with dyslexia.

I have experience with both primary and secondary students and love seeing my students’ growth and improvement.
